Mrs. Martha Larson became a volunteer at Kids Club in the fall 2010. She, along with a handful of other faithful volunteers, seemed to come right along with the use of the building at Beverly Hills Community United Methodist Church. As soon as Kids Club starting meeting at her church, Ms. Martha was there multiple times a week. It didn’t take her long to jump in fully and we quickly discovered that we had a well-equipped, multi-talented volunteer on our hands.
Ms. Martha happens to be a very recently retired elementary Physical Education teacher who brings with her a lot of energy, creative games, and an experienced knack for working with children. Since the fall of 2010, she has taught the students multiple dances, planned game stations, organized a field day and recently programmed an entire heart themed Fun Friday including jump rope activities, an exercise trampoline and even an opportunity to listen to a heartbeat and check a pulse. Martha has also volunteered on more than one occasion to come to program early and stay late so that sick staff members could go home and rest.
Apparently, volunteering multiple times a week at Kids Club and planning special events wasn’t enough for Ms. Martha. She also decided to get involved as a one-on-one in home mentor where she brings the same energy and excitement for learning into the home. For her service and dedication to the children of Kids Club, we highlight Mrs. Martha Larson as the April Casa Chirilagua Volunteer of the Month. Thank you, Martha, for your time, energy, effort, encouragement and brilliant ideas! We and the families of Chirilagua are truly blessed by your presence in our lives.
