Teens Club Core works together to make cookies
At Teens Club Core, we are a group of middle school students and adults striving to become people of character who are reaching outside our boxes, respecting each other, and engaging in God’s world. Last Wednesday, at our first night of Teens Club Core, we made cookies together in two groups. After the basic cookie recipe we had the students pile on toppings ranging from chocolate chips to gummy bears. Many of the final products were both inspiring (in a candy sort of way) and questionable (white chocolate and sour patch kids?).
I ran into a Teens Club student later that evening, and I asked him if he enjoyed his cookie. He immediately responded with “No! It was too sweet!” As I reflected on the melted pools of gummy bears that formed while they baked, it didn’t surprise me that his and maybe other kids’ cookies had not turned out exactly as they envisioned. And I love how this is just like life – especially for our middle school students.
As we try different activities and toy with different passions, it’s a game of trial and error, hit or miss. I am so honored to walk with the Teens Club middle school students to help them find ways to engage in God’s world, and I hope to encourage them to be courageous and to learn from things we try and mistakes we make.
