LIT TRIP 2012

During the first week of August the Leaders In Training set out on a Mid-west adventure to serve as a reward trip for a job well-done throughout the 2011-2012 school year. Ms. D and Mr. Hoppe traveled mid-way across country with three students in a mini-van. The trip was inaugurated with a cultural/leadership learning experience by watching the classic Indiana basketball movie, Hoosiers. Stops throughout the trip included Taylor University (a tour of campus and the new science center featuring wind turbine and solar power, heliostat lighting system, and a geothermal energy system), Indianapolis Children’s Museum, an Indiana farm, and Ms. D’s hometown.  We also visited the group of students who volunteered with Summer Kids Club 2011 and built a strong bond with our Casa Chiri kids. Activities included camping under the stars, driving a tractor, feeding cows, collecting eggs, petting sheep, rabbits and barn kittens, kayaking, canoeing, soccer, basketball, horseback riding, and a lot of swimming. As a capstone for the year, each day we held discussions on what it means to set oneself aside to be a servant-leader.  We were welcomed into multiple homes and shown incredible mid-western hospitality. The students certainly felt loved and cared for by the many people they encountered on the trip. If this wasn’t enough, Community Church of God wanted to bless the kids for their hard work and surprised the students with a fully paid trip to King’s Island Amusement park on the way home. Thank you to all of our Mid-western friends who made the trip a success and also to the Edelman foundation for providing the funds to make LIT a possibility in the 2011-2012 school year. This was a trip that will not soon be forgotten.
