Mrs.Vivian Miller shows up to Kids Club three days per week to help students with their homework and work on their reading skills. Mrs. Miller has resided in the city of Alexandria for 48 years and has been a member of Beverly Hills Community United Methodist Church (BHCUMC) for just as long. She and her husband began attending the church the first Sunday after they moved to the area and have been going there faithfully ever since. She is committed to the church and gives of her time serving on the board, heading up the nurture committee, teaching Sunday school for 23 years, and singing in the choir. It was a natural response for her to step up and volunteer when BHCUMC opened up its doors to Kids Club in September of this year. She had been hoping to volunteer in the area of teaching and Kids Club happened to be at the church and close by. Vivian also brings many years of experience to the table. After raising her children, she worked with Alexandria City Public School System for 16 years as a full time assistant kindergarten teacher, retiring in 2008. She says that it is nice to be teaching again. Mrs. Miller stated, “The most rewarding part is seeing the individual progress in each of the students.” Casa Chirilagua would like to thank Vivian for her consistent presence and dedication to the children of Kids Club. For giving of her time and talent, she is highlighted as the November 2010 volunteer of the month.
