Change is good, but sometimes change can be uncomfortable. Shifting resources to a Wednesday evening meeting has allowed a more focused “hour of excellence”, opened the door to partner with Guitars not Guns, and has given some students the extra push they needed to take advantage of meeting with their teachers regularly after school. Our boys who participate in Guitars Not Guns have learned two songs and are regularly attending. Change can be a challenge, but it’s great to see some of our students stretch themselves and adapt. Our volunteers have been an integral part of making these changes successful. Our first field trip since the shift will be this week, and we will be visiting the Salvadoran Embassy! We hope this visit will give them a new perspective on the importance of their cultural heritage as they define their identity in this very important stage of life.
