Volunteer Spotlight: Scott Jacob and Lee Ferron

For the month of June we are recognizing two volunteers as the volunteer of the month, Mr. Scott Jacob and Mr. Lee Ferron. Due to their hard work, dedication and the generous giving of their time and talents, this summer Casa Chirilagua will receive two databases built specifically for the needs of our organization. Not only have they given to us their creative skills, but they are also giving their hearts to the kids through tutoring and mentoringThanks to the generosity of these two professionals who have given of their time and talents we will soon have custom built databases to track our programs and giving.  That’s not bad for an officially 6 month old start-up. These two men are a testimony of God’s goodness that He provides through the faithfulness of His people.

Mr. Scott Jacob began tutoring with Kids Club in the spring of 2010 when it was still a small program of only 10 students. He came back again this year as a weekly volunteer and built some fun relationships with a few of the 3rd grade boys. He desired to get even more deeply involved in the ministry when he read an announcement in a newsletter that we were looking for someone to build a database to help us track program progress, student performance and volunteer hours. As a programmer who builds databases for a living, he knew this was a job he was capable of executing and executing well. After several emails and a few in-person meetings, the database is ready to go.  Now we have a way to track and query data regarding our over 40 one-on-one mentoring relationships, our soon to be 45 Kids Club students, our 40 partner organizations, our hundreds of volunteers, and the thousands of hours of volunteer time they have donated.

Mr. Lee Ferron first heard of Casa Chirilagua through its online presence upon his arrival to DC. As a newcomer to the area, he was looking for some ways to get involved and utilize his time and skills to benefit the Lord’s work in the local community. He immediately responded to some of the needs that were communicated in the meeting. He also came from a database building and maintenance background from his corporate career in the Midwest and when he saw there was a need for a database to track donor giving and in-kind gifts, he responded willingly and joyfully. Additionally, Lee has signed up to become a one-on-one mentor for a young man in the community.
