We Can Tell Them!

“Today we are going to turn plain old white coffee filters into beautiful, colorful butterflies!” I told my class full of young creators and artists. In the lesson time before working on the butterflies, we talked about how color, beauty and artistry exists all around us. We see creative genius and artistry in the flowers, the leaves, the trees, the skies, the grass. What is even more exciting is that all of us were created in God’s image and He placed His mark on each of us giving us an ability to create and make things beautiful. Just as an ugly worm that crawls on the ground turns into a beautiful butterfly that can flutter along, we can use creativity and artistry to make something dull and colorless into something beautiful.

At the end of the story, I explained to the students that we were going to display the butterflies in a walk through “Butterfly Sanctuary” at the Art of Restoration open house. One of the students looked up at me with a concerned expression on his face. He questioned, “But Ms. D, How will the people know the story?” Before I could even respond he continued on, “I know! We’ll be there! We can tell them!”
