May Volunteer of the Month

Apr 29, 2014

Every month we gather as a staff to select our Volunteer of the Month. With so many superstar volunteers it is always a tough choice, yet, each month one person or group stands out above the rest. This month we are pleased to announce Amelia Brown is our May Volunteer of the Month!

Amelia started volunteering with Casa Chirilagua in 2012. As a Casa volunteer, she helps our community in a variety of ways: serving on the Development Committee, a board committee which aids Casa Chirilagua in raising funds via events and other initiatives; mentoring one of our second grade girls; giving of her time in the Kids Club “Homework Room” assisting students with school assignments.

She is committed to her mentee, creating incentives in an effort to improve her mentee’s school and Kids Club attendance, plus teach her the value of responsibility. Amelia is a hard-working volunteer who proudly waves the Casa Chirilagua flag wherever she goes. We are thankful to have such a consistent and devoted volunteer like Amelia in our Casa Chirilagua family – thank you Ameila!

We are a community of people “learning together to love our neighbors as ourselves” in a Latino neighborhood in Alexandria, Virginia.

As a faith-based Christian non-profit with a small staff and over 100 volunteers, we serve alongside more than 100 families and their children (1st-12th grades) each week through our community programs.

Our relational network of volunteers and donors reflects a diverse group of individuals from all over the Washington, D.C. metro area. As a non-profit, we rely on the community for assisting program directors on-site, being mentors, supplying the needs of our food pantry, and everything in between. Each member of our Casa community holds a unique gift, whether time, talent or treasure.
