Kids Club Volunteers are the BEST!

Mar 10, 2013

On February 19, we celebrated Heart Day by learning about “Heart Heath”. Our volunteer Martha Larson organized some cardiovascular exercises for the kids and Dr. Jennifer Kilmer led a station where kids were able to listen to their hearts using a heartbeat doppler machine.

On February 27, Alexandria Soccer Association led a soccer clinic for the kids. On the way up the hill to the soccer field the kids saw an opening in the clouds. One of the boys said, “It looks like a heart!” Another boy said, “Mr. Julio, Jesus is calling us!” And like a cue from a stage director, all the kids started chanting “Jesus!” all the way up the hill. Perhaps God’s voice was calling to them in a way only they would recognize.

And finally, we all want to say thank you to our amazing Kids Club volunteers with this little song:
Kids Club Volunteers are Simply the Best!

We are a community of people “learning together to love our neighbors as ourselves” in a Latino neighborhood in Alexandria, Virginia.

As a faith-based Christian non-profit with a small staff and over 100 volunteers, we serve alongside more than 100 families and their children (1st-12th grades) each week through our community programs.

Our relational network of volunteers and donors reflects a diverse group of individuals from all over the Washington, D.C. metro area. As a non-profit, we rely on the community for assisting program directors on-site, being mentors, supplying the needs of our food pantry, and everything in between. Each member of our Casa community holds a unique gift, whether time, talent or treasure.
