New ACPS Partnership with Kids Club

Jan 10, 2012

In the fall, many of our 1st-3rd grade students were referred by their local school for mandatory after-school remediation.  The school administration, however, in recognizing the success and importance of our community-based after-school program, decided not to pull the students from Kids Club.  Instead, the school decided to send several of their teachers to our site three days a week!  Since November, these teachers have been coming to Kids Club and leading Guided Reading groups, as well as a movement based station (called Movement Lab) and a music based literacy station.  The children have been responding very well to the new structure and they especially enjoy the Movement Lab and Music stations.  We are thankful for God’s favor, as well as this wonderful opportunity to partner more closely with the school.

We are a community of people “learning together to love our neighbors as ourselves” in a Latino neighborhood in Alexandria, Virginia.

As a faith-based Christian non-profit with a small staff and over 100 volunteers, we serve alongside more than 100 families and their children (1st-12th grades) each week through our community programs.

Our relational network of volunteers and donors reflects a diverse group of individuals from all over the Washington, D.C. metro area. As a non-profit, we rely on the community for assisting program directors on-site, being mentors, supplying the needs of our food pantry, and everything in between. Each member of our Casa community holds a unique gift, whether time, talent or treasure.
