A New Year and a Fresh Focus for Casa Mentors

Sep 2, 2014

Our mentors are gearing up for the new school year and our mentoring family keeps growing! Last week, we had SIX new mentors attend our new mentor orientation. They were also the first mentors to experience the new and improved mentor orientation where they learned about Casa Chirilagua’s new strategic direction plan which is focused on the development of local leaders and how they, as mentors, are an INTEGRAL part of the plan’s success and implementation. Our mentors help to building a foundation for the emergence of local leaders by helping their mentees discover and develop their individual God-given potential gaining confidence to use their passions, abilities and talents in service to others.

If you are a mentor, join us for the annual mandatory training for ALL Casa Mentors offered two convenient times,  September 16 and 18 at 6:30 p.m. at our Casa offices. We will talk about our exciting 3-year plan and update mentors on Child Protection training.

Thanks to the amazing growth of the Casa family, we are in need of 15 new mentors and we need your help to find them! If you or someone you know is interested in investing in the life of a child as a Casa mentor, please email adriana@casachirilagua.org. At the Casa Chiri Mentoring program we aim “to transform two lives through one mentor relationship.”

We are a community of people “learning together to love our neighbors as ourselves” in a Latino neighborhood in Alexandria, Virginia.

As a faith-based Christian non-profit with a small staff and over 100 volunteers, we serve alongside more than 100 families and their children (1st-12th grades) each week through our community programs.

Our relational network of volunteers and donors reflects a diverse group of individuals from all over the Washington, D.C. metro area. As a non-profit, we rely on the community for assisting program directors on-site, being mentors, supplying the needs of our food pantry, and everything in between. Each member of our Casa community holds a unique gift, whether time, talent or treasure.
