The Aha! Cup

Jul 9, 2012

Carlos, a 2nd grader, was so thrilled when we told him he could attend the Nats game with us on Saturday, July 7th. He had never been to a professional baseball game before. As we approached the stadium, he was overcome by the size of the building. After we settled into our seats and grabbed some refreshments a volunteer found him intently studying his souvenir cup which was decorated with a photo of the stadium.  He pointed at the score board on the cup and asked the volunteer, “Is that above us because I don’t see it!?!” The volunteer replied, “Yes, the scoreboard is right up there,” as she pointed in a direction which could not be seen from our point of view. Carlos then exclaimed, “No wonder I have no idea what is going on!”

We are a community of people “learning together to love our neighbors as ourselves” in a Latino neighborhood in Alexandria, Virginia.

As a faith-based Christian non-profit with a small staff and over 100 volunteers, we serve alongside more than 100 families and their children (1st-12th grades) each week through our community programs.
