And The Winner Is….

May 7, 2012

Thanks to a generous donation and to some serious efforts by our kids we held our first ever Kids Club Writing Contest over the Spring Break.   23 kids took part and 15 students (3 students per grade) received cash prizes ($25 first place, $10 second place, $5 third place).   These students chose to spend their Spring Break vacation interviewing their parents and composing a small book relating their family’s story.  Questions that the children elaborated on included:  What was life like for their parents growing up in Central America?  How is their life different for their family now?  What are their hopes and dreams for the family’s future?  We were proud of their efforts and inspired by each story.  Way to go, once again, Kids Club kids!

We are a community of people “learning together to love our neighbors as ourselves” in a Latino neighborhood in Alexandria, Virginia.

As a faith-based Christian non-profit with a small staff and over 100 volunteers, we serve alongside more than 100 families and their children (1st-12th grades) each week through our community programs.

Our relational network of volunteers and donors reflects a diverse group of individuals from all over the Washington, D.C. metro area. As a non-profit, we rely on the community for assisting program directors on-site, being mentors, supplying the needs of our food pantry, and everything in between. Each member of our Casa community holds a unique gift, whether time, talent or treasure.
