The Art of Restoration: people. families. community. (An Art Gallery and Open House for Casa Chirilagua-Nov. 6, 2011)

Oct 18, 2011

This Fall, Casa Chirilagua is hosting an open house called “The Art of Restoration: people. families. community.” Restoration happens when creativity and love make something broken, old or ugly into something new, unique and beautiful. Casa Chirilagua works to restore lives and community by learning together to love our neighbors as ourselves. Wherever and however restoration happens, it is truly an art. We invite you to come and meet us and the families that make up who we are and what we do.

Restoration will be an art gallery of our students’ artwork and a collection of pieces and tastes from the array of events, programs, experiences and stories that over the years continue to build Casa Chirilagua.  Because everything we do is relational, “Restoration” is a time and space for connections between Chirilagua kids and families, Casa Chiri supporters, and new friends from the wider community to be made. The event will be held Sunday, November 6th from 2-5pm at the New Community Center (4109 Mt. Vernon Ave., Alexandria, VA 22305). Come to our open house and learn, see and experience more!

Local artists volunteered and taught kids during Summer Kids Club how to use different media of art and helped kids develop originality, creativity and a voice to be heard. The kids evaluated their best art pieces to be displayed in the Art of Restoration gallery to which students may invite their parents for them to view their accomplishments. Casa Chiri friends and new friends are invited to be a part of the gallery/silent auction and meet our students and their families.

The logo for the fundraiser was chosen from Kids Club kids’ submissions to a Restoration logo contest. Kids had to creatively represent a butterfly as a symbol of restoration. We had several excellent designs, but our winner is Luisito Lopez’s (1st grade) drawing. The drawing was designed into an official logo for the fundraiser by Sarah Dale, our volunteer graphic designer.
