I Love My Job!

Dec 14, 2011

After the Christmas party on Saturday evening, I took Brenda by her house to drop off some left-over food before going over to our house to hang out for a bit with the rest of the staff and some volunteers. As she got out of the car she looked at me and said, “The party was great, Ms. D! This year was even better than last year.” She continued,

“I love my job! I feel like I grow and learn with each new opportunity.” Brenda started as a volunteer, moved up as a summer intern and now works as the Kids Club Assistant Director. We see her as an invaluable member of our staff who has incredible potential. As I watched Brenda walk into her house and then awaited her return, I reflected on the ways I have seen her blossom and grow over the past two years. I then thought to myself, because of people like Brenda, I love my job too!

We are a community of people “learning together to love our neighbors as ourselves” in a Latino neighborhood in Alexandria, Virginia.

As a faith-based Christian non-profit with a small staff and over 100 volunteers, we serve alongside more than 100 families and their children (1st-12th grades) each week through our community programs.
